Not unlike a portable picture of Dorian Gray, the rich can hide their sins in the reconstructive wake of costly gestures. namely, what we’ll pay for eternal youth and flawlessness, or the destruction of truth in the service of desire.
Desire is always for something that cannot be consumed. no matter what is consumed, no matter how much, desire is always the remains of the remainder.
It haunts because it whispers change into our ears. changes of heart, and the horror of responsibility.
We fill in blanks with stories we long ago really didn’t buy into. and we hold onto endings that haven’t happened yet.
The surveying of this scope of desire is dismal.
Or at least it appears to be.
But subjectivity always finds itself as suffering against unforeseen changes, or repetitive events. it imagines always something better, and also something more alive.
Above all subjectivity avoids the event as such.
It is a characteristic of subjectivity to avoid what it needs to know of itself for itself.
